Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street’s Carl Webster has managed to dodge trouble yet again, as his brother Kevin attempted to expose his criminal activities. But will the slippery character get away scot-free, or could his comeuppance be on the horizon?

The walls have recently been closing in on Carl following months of dangerous money-making schemes and nasty betrayals. With his partner Abi discovering his affair and Ryan Connor noticing his suspicious bank transfers, viewers have been eagerly awaiting Carl’s inevitable downfall.

Last night appeared to be the final nail in Carl’s coffin, as footage of his car theft – which led to Tyrone Dobbs’ hit-and-run accident – was found by Kevin. In tonight’s episode, Kevin decided to reveal the truth to a captive audience at their sister Debbie’s wedding.

The day began with the street’s residents gearing up for the big event. While packing the car, Abi stumbled upon a bag full of cash in the boot, and later saw Carl checking the ticket for his secret flight to Germany – confirming his plan to flee Weatherfield.

Meanwhile, Kevin was irritated to see Carl fussing over Tyrone with his crutches, believing he was only helping because he felt guilty. Carl confronted Kevin and told him “there’s only so much” he would take of his “pushing”.

“Maybe I should tell everyone why,” threatened Kevin, before Debbie broke up the argument.

The bride was then escorted down the aisle by her two brothers, who managed to put their differences aside for the moment as she wed Ronnie Bailey. However, after the emotional ceremony ended, Kevin kept the pressure on Carl and revealed his plan to “lay him out” when they got back to the cobbles.

“You’ll be too late,” his ex-wife Abi informed him. “He’s leaving tonight. He’s escaping back to Germany… He’s got a one-way ticket. Doesn’t know I know.”

Kevin was furious to learn that Carl would be avoiding the consequences of his actions, and vowed to make him “pay”. During the wedding speeches, he set up a huge TV screen to play the footage of the car theft, telling the guests: “there’s someone else here who needs to get what they deserve, publicly.”

However, unbeknownst to Kevin, Carl was already one step ahead of his plan and switched the footage to a video of him and Jack dancing. Embarrassed Kevin lost his temper and told everyone that Carl was responsible for Tyrone’s injury.

Having destroyed the evidence, Carl vehemently denied the claims and a disgraced Kevin was forced out of the party. But later, Abi revealed that she knew about Carl’s lies and the pair had a huge argument, ending their relationship.

Afterwards, Carl was visited by the bride, who also questioned his involvement in Tyrone’s accident. But he soon turned the tables on Debbie, as she didn’t tell him that she had spoken to his estranged mum before her recent death.

While Carl may have escaped justice tonight, Monday’s (5 January) Corriedale crossover will see him at the forefront of the drama as he takes a drunken, dangerous drive with Debbie in tow. Will he face up to his horrific actions, or could he cause more collateral damage?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
