GRAND CHUTE (WLUK) — An uninvited guest was released from a Grand Chute home Monday after an unintended weekend stay.

Officials say a deer crashed through the window of the house and became trapped in the basement.

The 911 scanner call was almost as unusual as the break-in itself.

“Okay, do you want a second unit?” the dispatcher said. “Yeah, this could be interesting,” replied the officer. “Okay, just took me a minute to make sure I was reading the call correctly,” the dispatcher added.

According to NuisancePro, which caught the animal, the deer broke into the basement window Saturday and fell inside.

“We actually netted it, and we were going to use a blanket, but the animal had been in there a couple days, so it was a little bit tired out, and we were able to just grab on to it by hand and take it out,” said Nathan Seelow, owner and operator of NuisancePro.

According to Seelow, the owners weren’t home at the time of the break-in — and the deer wasn’t discovered until Monday morning when a neighbor noticed it in the basement. Since the deer had spent a few days in the house, it had time to make its way around.

“It’s a mess. Glass and poop everywhere,” Seelow said.

He told FOX 11 an animal winding up in a home is more common than you’d think.

“Every season we deal with that. Anything from squirrels chewing up windows to raccoons coming down chimneys, to deer smashing through windows,” he said.

After getting out of the confines of the house, the deer was immediately released into the wild. Now, all that’s left is a lot of clean up for the homeowners.
