Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was denied a sixth year of eligibility, the NCAA announced Friday.

“This decision aligns with consistent application of NCAA rules,” the NCAA said as part of the announcement. “So far this academic year, the NCAA has received 784 clock extension requests (438 in football). Of those, 25 cases cited an incapacitating injury (nine in football). The NCAA approved 15 of those (six in football), and all 15 provided medical documentation from the time of the injury. Conversely, all 10 that were denied (three in football) did not provide the required medical documentation.”

ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported the news.

Ole Miss is still able to appeal the NCAA’s decision, per Thamel.

Tom Mars, Chambliss’ attorney, reacted to the denial on Friday.

“I’m disappointed, but not surprised,” Mars told Thamel. “The last time I checked, however, the only score that matters is the one at the end of the fourth quarter.

“I understand that Ole Miss will file an appeal with the NCAA. However, there’s now an opportunity to move this case to a level playing field where Trinidad’s rights will be determined by the Mississippi judiciary instead of some bureaucrats in Indianapolis who couldn’t care less about the law or doing the right thing. Whether to pursue that course of action is a decision only Trinidad and his parents can make.”

Chambliss previously filed a petition to receive another year of eligibility in Nov. 2025.

The signal-caller was seeking a medical redshirt year from his sophomore season at Ferris State, supplying 91 pages of medical documents showing he was battling a respiratory issue (via Thamel).

While Chambliss is able to declare for the 2026 NFL draft, Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported Monday that he agreed to a new NIL contract to keep him with Ole Miss for the 2026 season. The deal is contingent on his eligibility being granted by the NCAA.

Chambliss also announced his intention to remain with the Rebels on social media.

The 23-year-old transferred to Ole Miss ahead of the 2025 season after spending four years at Ferris State.

Chambliss excelled during his first year with the Rebels, completing 66.1 percent of his passes for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions.

He stepped up during Ole Miss’ College Football Playoff run, throwing for 921 yards and four touchdowns without getting picked off in three playoff games.

The Rebels’ 2025 campaign finally came to an end with a 31-27 loss to Miami in a CFP semifinal clash on Friday night.

If appealing the NCAA’s decision doesn’t work, Chambliss could find himself suiting up on Sundays next season. He was listed as the No. 10 quarterback in the 2026 draft class on the latest big board from Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department.
