Manchester United are hoping for a calmer week ahead, with the appointment of an interim manager to guide them through the rest of the season following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.
It’s understood that United executives are in discussions with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick about a potential return to the Old Trafford dugout until the season’s end.
The focus is firmly on securing a new manager after Amorim was let go last week, in the wake of his fiery press conference tirade following the draw with Leeds United. He publicly urged sporting director Jason Wilcox to ‘do his job.’
This proved to be his final act at United, as he was relieved of his duties less than 24 hours later. Despite this upheaval, transfer rumours continue to swirl.
Here, the Manchester Evening News has examined the latest transfer news and speculation surrounding potential arrivals and departures at Old Trafford….
Elliot Anderson transfer stance clear
Manchester United will have to wait until the summer if they wish to sign England international Elliot Anderson, as Nottingham Forest maintain their firm stance of not selling in January.
Nottingham Forest are battling at the bottom of the table despite their European qualification last season, with Anderson being a key player. Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been linked with moves for the former Newcastle United player.
However, The Athletic reports that his price tag would be too expensive for Premier League clubs to pursue him this month, particularly given financial fair play requirements.
Nonetheless, an offer of around £80m-£100m might tempt Forest into negotiations.

Championship club interested in United prospect
Championship leaders Hull City are pursuing a loan deal for Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer after his return to Old Trafford. The Tigers are in discussions with United regarding the midfielder, who spent the opening half of the campaign on loan at West Brom before Ruben Amorim recalled him.
“We have an option to bring Collyer from Man United, so we will see,” Jakirovic told Hull Live. “We spoke already this summer. It was a very nice conversation together with Jonny Evans at that time, who was the loan manager (at United), but at that time, he chose West Brom, which is OK I respect that.
“Maybe he didn’t believe that we would have a good season, and have a good team. It was tricky back then, when you have an embargo, you cannot bring the players. Also, you must look after yourself because you need the minutes, and maybe in our team it’s easier to get the minutes.”
Man Utd ‘block’ January transfer
Manchester United have reportedly shut down any transfer discussions with Serie A club AS Roma over a potential January departure for out-of-favour striker Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch international has found himself on the periphery this season after the summer arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Roma’s sporting director Massara told DAZN: “At the moment, United have closed off all transfer talks after the change of manager. I doubt they’ll change their minds.”
