Dennis Rodman did not trust many people during his NBA career. One of the few that he did was his agent, Dwight Manley. Manley was a numismatist — a person who collects coins and medals, whom Dennis met in Las Vegas and became really good friends with.
However, during an interview with SI’s Mike Wise, Manley revealed that at the height of Rodman’s relationship with actress Carmen Electra, he stopped representing his buddy because he felt that Dennis’ antics had gone too far.
“He was dating Carmen Electra at some point,” Wise said. “Dwight Manley, his agent at the time. told me, I said, ‘Why did you stop representing him?’ He goes, ‘I stopped representing him when he was having s-x with Carmen Electra in the middle of a private plane, and I just said, ‘It’s too much’. I was like, ‘I guess that’s when you drop your client.'”
From buddy to agent
Manley met Rodman in 1993, back when he was with the Detroit Pistons and when his hair was still black. They played craps together at The Mirage, watched George Carlin’s stand-up comedy show, and bonded in a bachelor party.
Soon, they became friends and after Dennis was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in 1995, he became his de facto agent, as Dwight had gotten involved in “The Worm’s” affairs.
During the 1995 offseason, Rodman asked Manley to help him earn some money. He used his connections to secure non-basketball income for his friend-turned-client, including a book deal for “Walk on the Wild Side” and endorsement deals.
In 1996, Manley also helped Rodman land a $9 million one-year extension from the Bulls, after the two-time Defensive Player of the Year earned just $2.5 million in his first year in Chicago.
However, the “Baywatch” actress then came along and they got married. Dwight was opposed to Dennis’ relationship with Carmen because he felt that she and the people he referred to as ‘leeches’ exploited his client. But Rodman did not listen as he was madly in love with Electra. It all came to a head during that infamous flight.
The Berto Center wasn’t spared from Rodman’s crazy fantasies
Not surprisingly, a private plane wasn’t the only place where Rodman and Electra had their trysts. As the actress told the Los Angeles Times’ Greg Braxton, “The Worm” once surprised her by driving her blindfolded to the Bulls practice facility in Deerfield and did their deed all over the Berto Center.
“One day when the Bulls had an off day from practicing, Dennis said he had a surprise for me,” she said. “He blindfolds me, and we get on his motorcycle. When he finally takes my blindfold off, we’re standing at the Bulls practice facility, center court. It was crazy, like two kids in a candy store. We were eating Popsicles from the fridge and pretty much having sex all over the damn place—in the physical therapy room, in the weight room. Obviously on the court.”
The Rodman-Carmen Electra affair lasted for about a year. They started dating in early 1998, got married on November 14, 1998 and separated less than six months later, with their annulment finalized in April 1999. As crazy as The Worm was, you could just imagine where else the two had their intimate moments during those 12-14 months together.
