Danny Rohl says Rangers played like men to beat Aberdeen at Pittodrie – then hailed Ibrox new boy Tochi Chukwuani.

The Light Blues gaffer was delighted as his side made it five wins on the spin with a 2-0 victory over the Dons. A Thelo Aasgaard strike then James Tavernier ‘s penalty secured the points to take them back to second place in the Premiership – three points off leaders Hearts.

Rohl was pleased with his side’s display in the Granite City and chuffed to strengthen his squad with the pre-match addition of £3.5 million midfielder Chukwuani who arrived from Sturm Graz. After picking up a vital three points in the league, the German said: “I’m really proud of my group, we showed different faces today and that’s what we need.

“We played good, men’s football. We were ready for the duels and second balls and understood when to play in behind or keep the ball in the right areas. It was an enjoyable result and great to see.

“It was fully deserved from my point of view and we scored at the right moments. In the second half we missed good opportunities to make it two and three.

“You never know what can happen in a game like this but then finally, we got the 2-0. We were really focused until the end and we’re in an outstanding moment, in terms of what we’ve done – five wins in a row now.

“Now, we have a short break, a serious cup game (vs Annan) and then we have to go again.”

Rangers will be boosted by the signing of Danish star Chukwuani who has penned a three and a half year deal at Ibrox.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder could be in line for a debut against Annan in the Scottish Cup on Friday night.

Rohl praised the Rangers board for getting the deal over the line. He said: “I’m very happy as we’ve worked hard over the last couple of days to get the deal done.

“Big thank you to Andrew (Cavenagh) and the board and at the moment our communication is great.

“Tochi will bring a good physical side and experience in Europe.

“But it’s also important to understand we have a good group here, they showed that on the pitch today.

“They deserve big credit but this is exactly what we need – a challenge in some positions.

“We have to understand our development in the last 12 weeks, it’s been outstanding from some players.

“Look at Thelo, who scored a goal today. He’s the next one to go in the right direction for us which is really pleasing to see.”
