When Londonderry police officers tried to speak with the driver, she fled, leading police on a pursuit westbound on Route 102, state police said.
Police said after the woman, who they later identified as Lewis, pulled into a gas station, officers tried to stop her from leaving that property, but she drove down an embankment, hit a guardrail and got back onto Route 102.
Eventually, according to police, the driver entered Interstate 93 in Londonderry and later traveled along I-293.
Police said the driver then tried driving the wrong direction on the southbound side of I-293 but a state trooper used his cruiser to stop the vehicle.
According to police, the highway was closed for about two hours because Lewis refused to get out of the vehicle.
During the standoff, police said they tried negotiating with the driver. They said they deployed “less-lethal munitions” before the driver was taken into custody.
Lewis was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries. She is expected to be arraigned later this week, police said.
