On a beach in South Florida, Alysha and her brother were relaxing in the sand, napping and enjoying the sunshine. After a while, they opened their eyes and came face-to-face with dozens of wild babies.
The siblings had unknowingly set up camp near a nest of sea turtle eggs, and while they were napping, the babies had decided to hatch. The pair did their best to move their stuff out of the babies’ path, then sat back and watched in awe.
“I never thought in a million years we’d wake up from this afternoon beach nap to a swarm of baby sea turtles,” Alysha wrote on TikTok.
The sea turtle nest had been roped off, but their path down to the water was not. Luckily, everyone seated nearby understood the assignment: Help the babies reach the water safely without directly interfering.
“I know it’s very important not to touch the turtles, hence why we stayed still and tried to remove obstacles as best we could, while also in a state of total shock,” Alysha wrote.
Once all of the babies had passed the beachgoers, everyone stood up to watch them complete their journey and be carried away by the waves.
“It was so special to be able to see them make their way to the water, and once it was safe to move, we watched them ALL make it,” Alysha wrote. “And with no bird interference!”
Every single baby who began the trek made it to the water safely, and the entire beach breathed a collective sigh of relief.
“The most special beach day ever,” Alysha wrote.
