Mohamed Salah has been one of the most dominant players in England for many years.

Salah has now broken Wayne Rooney’s record for most goal contributions at a single Premier League club.

He finished as their top goalscorer last term when they won their second-ever title and played a crucial role in their 2020 success.

Up until a few years ago, the winger was helping Liverpool dominate alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Jurgen Klopp praised the lethal Liverpool attack recently, saying they were three of the best-ever signings in football, not just at Anfield.

Unpopular opinion: Peak Sadio Mane was better than peak Mohamed Salah…

People aren’t ready for that discussion…

Whether Salah is better than Mane is up for debate, but Asamoah Gyan has certainly made his feelings on the situation clear.

Asamoah Gyan ranks Sadio Mane ahead of Mohamed Salah

Mane recently bested Salah at the 2026 AFCON, coming out on top in a semi-final clash between Senegal and Egypt.

However, while both Liverpool icons have had impressive careers, Gyan does not believe they are the best African footballers.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast this week, the former Sunderland talent was asked to rank Salah, Mane, Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o.

He put the former Inter Milan and FC Barcelona striker in the number one spot, with Drogba then taking second place.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly to some fans, Gyan then ranked Mane ahead of Salah.

Why Sadio Mane left Liverpool

Now 33, Mane is currently on the books of Al-Nassr after he spent time at Bayern Munich following his Liverpool sale in 2022.

The winger was still in his prime years when he departed Anfield, and explained his decision to leave in an interview from November 2025.

There did not appear to be any issues with the club, with Mane simply saying, as per the Echo, that he wanted a new challenge.

He said: “Liverpool was like home. It was my comfort zone. Let’s try to try something [else] because I have almost won everything here.

“So my challenge is not because… of course some things can happen or blah blah, but for me that was not really important.

“The motivation for me to go somewhere, okay to see… to leave my comfort zone and to do something else in the other part. So that was my reason why I say, ‘Okay let’s try. Why not?’”
