The final is set at the WTA Adelaide International, and it’s a battle of the teen sensations. 18-year-old and #3 seed Mirra Andreeva will face 19-year-old and #8 seed Victoria Mboko in what could be the beginning of one of the great rivalries. As always, we at LWOT will offer our prediction for this blockbuster match, but which player will lift the trophy?
WTA Adelaide Final Prediction
Mirra Andreeva vs Victoria Mboko
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Mirra Andreeva is in her first WTA finas since winning Indian Wells last season, and she must be relieved with how well she has played this week. Andreeva has been dominant and efficient, losing not more than three games in a set. Andreeva has shown maturity beyond her age and is one step away from winning her fourth career title.
Mboko easily defeated Kimberly Birrell in the semifinals, showing no mercy towards her opponent. She overcame three consecutive three-setters early, including a major win over defending champion and recent Australian Open winner Madison Keys in the quarterfinals. This is her third tour-level final. This is a great way for her to start the year, and she will be hoping to continue her spotless finals record.
Both these players are peaking at the perfect time before the Australian Open and will give their best to win this match and the title. Andreeva has upped her power from last season, and her defense is one of the best on the tour, which will be key against Mboko’s aggressive groundstrokes. Mboko’s relentless returning and big serve make her a constant threat. Both players have shown great composure in the finals previously, but Andreeva’s experience gives her a slight edge. I can see this going the distance, but my prediction is in favour of the Russian player.
Prediction: Andreeva in 3
