ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Some students and parents are concerned over alleged car break-ins at Clark Atlanta University in the last several months.
A parent emailed Atlanta News First his concerns after he said his child was a victim. Many students on the campus then said they heard about car break-ins and claim these incidents started in October, with the most recent car break-in happening during move-in.
“I personally haven’t been a victim, but I can feel because if that was me, I’d be very upset,” Destini Jackson, a student, said.
The parent who emailed Atlanta News First said students have to pay to park in the deck and therefore, they expect a safe parking environment.
Atlanta News First obtained a copy of an email from the University police chief acknowledging break-ins at the parking deck and at the Beckwith Village lot in October. According to the email, campus police launched a “clean car campaign,” and said they were placing a patrol unit exclusively at the parking area, as well as increasing lighting.
But Jackson said it still makes her hesitant to park there.
“It kind of does. I’ve been debating,” she said. “But I hope with more presence it does get better because I do want to park in there, but I definitely have kind of changed my mind a little bit.”
A university spokesperson told Atlanta News First they are working on a response.
