Massive fire engulfs dozens of shops at shopping mall in southern Pakistan, killing 3 people

A fire ripped through a multistorey shopping mall in Karachi late Saturday, killing at least three people and injuring about a dozen others, police and rescue officials said.

The blaze broke out at Gul Plaza shortly after 10 pm local time and spread rapidly, fuelled by stored garments and plastic goods. Firefighters battled the flames using ladders, water cannons and hoses as thick black smoke rose over the area.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known and will be investigated once the blaze is extinguished. Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, has seen repeated deadly fires, often linked to poor fire safety measures.
