Liverpool and Tottenham are both hunting for a new central defender this summer.

The Reds have already sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, meaning Liverpool are looking for a replacement happy to sit behind Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez in the pecking order.

In north London, Tottenham are ready to sell Radu Dragusin – and are therefore in the market for a defender too who can compete with Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Kevin Danso.

Thomas Frank does have the likes of Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai at his disposal – although the pair are potentially set for loan exits like Ashley Phillips, who was sent to Stoke.

One target for both Liverpool and Tottenham is Giovanni Leoni – although the Parma No.46 is ready to ignore the Premier League duo for Inter Milan.

Inter Milan have convinced Giovanni Leoni

TBR Football recently revealed that Liverpool and Tottenham are monitoring Leoni – but faced competition from Inter Milan and Juventus.

Now – according to Corriere dello Sport in Italy – Inter Milan have convinced the central defender to move to the San Siro.

The Italian news outlet state that Leoni is eager to reunite with Cristian Chivu at Inter Milan, as it was the Romanian who gave him an opportunity at Parma, and is satisfied by the role being offered to him in the team.

Corriere dello Sport add that Parma want €35m (£30m) for the 18-year-old.

Liverpool and Tottenham are not out of the race just yet

Corriere dello Sport do leave the door open to another club muscling Inter Milan aside.

The Italian news outlet mention that Inter Milan are also trying to sign Ademola Lookman, and are working on an agreement with Atalanta before opening talks with Parma over Leoni.

It is stressed that the Rome-born defender will not wait forever for Inter Milan, and if enough time passes before any progress is made, he will evaluate other options with his representatives.

Therefore, all hope is not lost just yet for Liverpool and Tottenham.
