Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley confirmed organisers opened up another exit at the Australian Open to combat lengthy queues.

In an interview on 3AW this afternoon, Tiley said a two-hour wait time “is not something you want at any event”.

“We found a way and managed to open up another part of the site, which was another entry and so that over the next three, four days will definitely alleviate some of the pressure,” he said.

Tiley said the additional entrance was near Richmond station.

During the interview, Tiley was pressed on reports fans did not get a chance to see any tennis on Monday due to long queues to get into courts

“Look I mean I haven’t heard those reports,” Tiley said.

“There’s been over 60 matches that we showcased yesterday. So we would expect there would be an opportunity to either get live [tennis], if not being able to enjoy the activities on the big screen as well.“

When quizzed on the capacity of Melbourne Park, Tiley said Tennis Australia could pause when necessary ground passes to ensure “we’re not in a situation where fans aren’t having a good experience”.
