Mavericks CEO Rick Welts said the team is focusing on two locations within the city of Dallas to be used for a new arena.
DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks have zeroed in on two possible locations for a new arena, both of which still within the city of Dallas, according to CEO Rick Welts.
Welts told the Dallas Morning News in an interview on Tuesday they were looking at the land where City Hall lies and the Valley View Center property to potentially be the new arena site. A Mavericks spokesperson independently confirmed the reports with WFAA.
City Hall is located on Marilla Street in downtown Dallas, and the Valley View Mall property sits at the corner of Preston Road and Interstate 635 in northern Dallas.
The prospective locations give new insight into the Mavs’ future plans. Welts also told the DMN they hope to announce which venue has been chosen by July. The Mavericks’ current lease with the American Airlines Center expires in 2031. Welts has said in the past they intend to move into this new arena after completing the current lease in 2031.
The city of Dallas is still having conversations about whether to preserve or demolish the City Hall building, Mavs officials confirmed.
