Part of Curt Cignetti’s lore at Indiana will always involve Google, and even the search engine itself is getting in on the fun following the Hoosiers’ College Football Playoff national championship.
If fans google the Indiana head coach, they are greeted with a message that says “Yup, he won.”
It is a reference to Cignetti’s famous quote from his introductory press conference after he was first hired by the Hoosiers. He said, “I win, Google me” when discussing how he would pitch coming to Indiana to players, and it took him just two short years to deliver on that and win on the sport’s highest level.
While Cignetti has received no shortage of praise and admiration for bringing the title to Indiana, his turnaround efforts for the Big Ten program may still somehow be underrated.
After all, the Hoosiers were historical losers on the football field before he arrived.Â
Indiana started the 2025 season with the most total losses in college football history, although that distinction now belongs to Northwestern (718 losses) after the Hoosiers didn’t add a single loss to their own total of 715 during their title-winning campaign.
Yet Cignetti walked right into that situation and immediately changed everything.
The Hoosiers went 11-2 and reached the CFP in his first season in 2024, which also marked the program’s first season with double-digit wins. In fact, the only time they had even reached nine wins prior to his arrival came in 1945 and 1967.
That was just the beginning, as Indiana went a perfect 16-0 and lifted the CFP national championship trophy in his second season.
It was certainly tested with narrow wins over Penn State and Iowa during the regular season before a three-point victory over Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game. Yet the start of the CFP was an incredible display of dominance with a 35-point win over Alabama and a 34-point win over Oregon.
Miami provided the biggest challenge with the championship on the line, but the Hoosiers prevailed with a late interception of Carson Beck to preserve the 27-21 win.
They earned the trophy and quite the Google result in the process.
