(KNSI) – The City of Sartell is offering advice after residents reported their water pipes are freezing.

Recommended precautions include running a small, steady drip from a faucet to help prevent the water from freezing. City officials emphasize this is a preventative measure and not required of residents. Homeowners are still responsible for all water usage recorded on their meter.

Central Minnesota has been plunged into a deep freeze, with air temperatures reaching -24 degrees and wind chills near -36 degrees. An extreme cold warning was issued overnight, followed by a cold weather advisory, which is in effect until midnight. The National Weather Service predicts Friday’s high will be -10 degrees, Saturday’s high will be -4 degrees, and Sunday will top out at 1 degree.
