MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – McFarland Community Ice Arena was the epicenter of girls’ youth hockey action on Saturday as the 2nd Annual Jr. Icebergs 8U Jamboree.
The event brought together 150 female athletes from across Wisconsin in what organizers say is the largest girls’ hockey event in the state this year.
“Girls’ hockey is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, and events like this jamboree are crucial to sustaining that momentum,” Nick Trentadue, President of McFarland Youth Hockey Association and Jr. Icebergs Girls Hockey said. “We’re committed to providing opportunities for young female athletes to develop their skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of competition in a supportive environment.”
The daylong tournament showcased 15 teams representing 13 associations throughout the region, with matches running continuously from 10:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
The event was jointly hosted by the McFarland, Stoughton, and Oregon Youth Hockey Associations, whose partnership forms the Jr. Icebergs co-op girls youth hockey team.
In a move designed to remove barriers to participation, organizers waived entry fees for all participating families.
The McFarland Community Ice Arena also donated ice time to accommodate the event.
