Twelve New Jersey hospitals have earned spots on Healthgrades annual list of America’s Best Hospitals.

The list recognizes three tiers of achievement:

America’s 250 Best Hospitals, which represent the top 5% of hospitals in the nation. America’s 100 Best Hospitals, which represent the top 2%.America’s 50 Best Hospitals, which represent the 1%.

Two New Jersey hospitals — Overlook Medical Center and Morristown Medical Center — scored in the top 1% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance. Both are part of Atlantic Health System.

Healthgrades analyzes patient outcomes at 4,500 hospitals nationwide across 31 common procedures and conditions to make its list. It also looks at patient experience.

The New Jersey hospitals that received top marks are:

America’s 50 Best HospitalsOverlook Medical Center – The medical facility in Summit also received awards from Healthgrades for gastrointestinal surgery, pulmonary care, stroke care and excellence in neuroscience.Morristown Medical Center – The Morristown hospital was also recognized for better outcomes in cardiac surgery, cranial neurosurgery and stroke care.America’s 100 Best HospitalsCooperman Barnabas Medical Center – The hospital in Livingston was also named among America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care.Valley Hospital – Located in Ridgewood, this medical facility was recognized for stroke care, outpatient joint replacement and outpatient orthopedic surgery. Jersey Shore University Medical Center – The Neptune hospital also received awards for cardiac care, cardiac surgery and stroke care. America’s 250 Best HospitalsRobert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset – Located in Somerville, this medical facility was recognized for clinical outcomes in clinical care, gastrointestinal care and pulmonary care.Chilton Medical Center – The Pompton Plains medical facility has received awards for critical care, gastrointestinal surgery and stroke care.Hackensack University Medical Center – Located in Bergen County’s most populous city, Hackensack University Medical Center also earned awards for cardiac care, cardiac surgery and excellence in coronary intervention.Bayshore Medical Center – The Holmdel facility was recognized for better outcomes in critical care, gastrointestinal care and pulmonary care.Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center – The Plainsboro hospital has earned awards for critical care, pulmonary care and stroke care.Riverview Medical Center – The hospital in Red Bank took home awards for critical care, pulmonary care and stroke care. Ocean University Medical Center – This hospital located in Brick has been recognized for patient outcomes in surgical care, stroke care and critical care.
