WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) has renamed its neuroscience institute after Michael Jordan’s mother.
On Saturday morning, people gathered to celebrate the renaming of the neuroscience institute. In November, famous basketball player Michael Jordan donated $10 million to Novant Health in honor of his mother, Deloris Jordan.
In recognition of the donation, the neuroscience institute is now named the Deloris P. Jordan Neurosciences Institute.
“It’s a celebration. What I want you to know is that we at Novant Health are focused on delivering remarkable healthcare every day that really spans every community, city, and every generation,” said Carl Armato, President and CEO of Novant Health.
During the event, Novant Health representatives discussed how the donation will enable continued research into brain health.
“I speak for all of neurosciences when I say how humbled we are to have our neuroscience institute named the Deloris P. Jordan Neurosciences Institute. We will strive to bring excellent service to our community and beyond, and to continue our mission and vision to build a neuroscience institute worthy of her name and that she will be very proud of,” said Dr. Jefferey Beecher, director of neurosciences for NHRMC.
During the event, Deloris Jordan was recognized as Novant’s Global Ambassador. She spoke about how it is an honor to give back to the Wilmington community. She also discussed her passion for expanding knowledge and access to healthcare worldwide and how the partnership with Novant will drive positive growth.
“Everybody should have an opportunity for good health and education. How do you make it? Coming together and understanding one another. Your skin may be different, but your blood is still red.”
Representatives from Novant acknowledged that the building dedication came at the right time, on the day before the neuroscience institute’s third anniversary.
