Manchester United kept the winning run alive with a brilliant stoppage-time goal from Benjamin Sesko against Fulham.

The celebrations around Old Trafford reflected how important this win was for Manchester United, tightening the grip on Champions League football.

In isolation, this would have been considered Ruben Amorim’s best league game, but under Michael Carrick, United have made winning feel second nature again.

Three games, eight goals scored and four conceded for United in this run, which now sees the club firmly in fourth and hunting third-placed Aston Villa.

During United’s 3-2 win over Fulham, the team achieved something that put the 2024/25 season to shame.

Manchester United have already surpassed the goal tally from 2024/25

This was the sixth time this Premier League season that United have scored three or more goals in a game, two of which came under Carrick.

Achieving this felt impossible last season, with United’s attack being the major weakness, which resulted in Ineos completely overhauling the attacking front three.

After 38 league games last season, United had only managed to score 44 goals, with Bruno Fernandes almost a one-man team in attack.

Yet this season, already this tally has been matched by the Red Devils this season after just 24 games, 14 games less than it took United to score 44 last season.

This puts United as the third-highest scorers in the league and with the most expected goals, to reinforce that it is a deserved tally of goals.

United are also just one point off last season’s total, showing how bad it was, raising the question of how Amorim survived.

Ineos’ attacking revamp has paid off for Manchester United

Last summer, after the attack faltered all season long, Manchester United signed a new front three to replace Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Antony.

Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha all arrived and have been absolute upgrades on their predecessors.

The trio sit in the top three of United’s top scorers this season, scoring a combined 21 in 26 games across all competitions.

This has eased the burden on Bruno Fernandes, who has instead contributed 13 assists in all competitions, and for the first time in years, he isn’t expected to score all the goals.

Ineos now need to replicate this in the summer of 2026 with the midfield, and perhaps 2027 will see number 21 finally look possible.
