The Chicago Sky made multiple roster moves on Monday. They signed former Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings guard Sevgi Uzun to rest-of-season contract. The Sky had a full roster of 12 players, so to accommodate Uzun, they waived veteran point guard Moriah Jefferson. Jefferson recently returned to the lineup after a late-season debut due to a leg injury. Talking about Uzun, the Turkish player began the season with the Phoenix Mercury.Â
However, her stint with them was cut short following her departure to join the Turkish national team for Eurobasket. Announcing the signing of Uzun, the Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca said, âWeâre excited to add a two-way point guard in Sevgi Uzun. Uzun is a complete pro who is going to immediately contribute to the Chicago Sky. Sheâs played at a high level in the WNBA and overseas and will continue to prove to be a strong playmaker and defender.â
What Role is Sevgi Uzun Expected to Play for Chicago Sky?Â
Chicago Sky are one of the worst-performing teams of the season. With seven wins and 18 losses, they have currently occupied the bottom-second spot in the standings. While Angel Reese has been delivering well, their overall performance has come off disappointing. They are trying to rebuild their roster around the duo of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Apart from them, Uzun may be a player who emerges as hope for the Sky to move forward.Â
The Turkish star has played a total of 47 games in the WNBA after starting with the Dallas Wings in 2024. For the Wings, she appeared in all 40 games for them while making 19 starts. She averaged 4.4 points, 3.0 assists, and 0.9 steals in her rookie season. For the Mercury, she made seven appearances and totaled 11 points and 14 assists.Â
Sure, the 27-year-old doesnât have much experience in the WNBA, but before joining the league, she played close to ten years overseas. Hence, she brings a wealth of professional experience which will help her in stint with the Sky.
