Syracuse, N.Y. — Class of 2027 Rickards (Florida) athlete Davion Crumitie has decommitted from Syracuse football, he told Rivals.
The three-star recruit and top-50 player in Florida committed to Syracuse in September. He is now reopening his commitment.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while,” Crumitie told Rivals. “The reason I decommitted was just wanting to open back up and look at all of my options. I want to see different places.”
Crumitie announced offers from Virginia Tech and West Virginia on Tuesday. He also announced offers from Wisconsin, Boston College, Kentucky, Kansas State, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Kansas and Miami (Ohio) after his commitment to Syracuse.
He said Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Kansas, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Maryland and Central Florida are recruiting him the hardest at the moment.
“(Fran) Brown is one of the best in college football and I have all love for him,” Crumitie said. “But I want to find the best spot for me.”
Syracuse is losing a Florida athlete who played both wide receiver and defensive back in high school, much like Demetres Samuel Jr.
With Crumitie decommitting, Syracuse is down to nine commitments in the 2027 class.
The Orange ranks fifth in the country and first in the ACC in 2027 recruiting rankings, according to 247sports.
Syracuse spent the last two weekends hosting recruits for junior days as it ramps up recruiting the class that will follow 2026, the Orange’s highest ranked haul in program history.
