Two Cañon City residents have been arrested after Cañon City Police officers made contact with a vehicle where the occupants were acting suspiciously.

According to a press release from the Cañon City Police Department, at 9:41 p.m. Jan. 31, officers approached the vehicle and “observed items in plain view that were consistent with illegal activity.”

The investigation resulted in the discovery of illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, a firearm, ammunition, and additional weapons inside the vehicle.

Hailey Wahl, 22, Cañon City, was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and
possession of a controlled substance (schedule I/II, less than 4 grams)

Steven Ross Walters, 22, Cañon City, was charged with violation of a protection order (2 counts).

The Cañon City Police Department stated it commends the officers involved for their proactive efforts, attention to detail and professionalism.

“What started as a suspicious vehicle ended with weapons and drugs off the street — proof that good policing isn’t luck, it’s skill,” Chief John Schick said. “Great job by our team members!” These officers’ actions exemplify the department’s mission of service excellence and its ongoing commitment to protecting the community.”
