Fans are hungry to see the Patriots win their seventh Super Bowl title. As some prepare to host a watch party for Sunday’s showdown, fans want to make sure their food spread is just as championship-worthy as the action on the field.
With a few substitutions, consumers can serve game-day favorites and save.
“If you put the effort in in your kitchen, buying these ingredients, you can really make a big difference,” said Michael Swanson, an agricultural economist at Wells Fargo.
According to their “Super Bowl Food Report,” hosting a party for around 10 people will cost around $140 dollars this year.
“It’s about $14 per person. It’s interesting, if you go out for lunch today in the Boston area, you will find it pretty hard to spend less than $14 for lunch,” Swanson said.
A look back at how Super Bowl food prices have changed from 1967 to 2026, including pizza, chicken wings, chips, and soda.
Game-day staples like chicken wings are down nearly 3% from last year. Other proteins, like shrimp and meat, will cost a bit more this year.
Veggies like red bell peppers and carrots will score a field goal for consumers’ wallets, unlike broccoli and cauliflower.
“Luckily, they’re pretty affordable,” Swanson explained. “When you look at them on a pound basis, they’re up 2 1/2, 4%. But, you know, the price isn’t that big, either, so it’s affordable.”
Another budget-friendly option is frozen pizza, down 0.6%, thanks to improved ingredient efficiencies. And a party isn’t a party without chips and guac. The good news is prices are down for both.
For fans wanting a taste of Puerto Rico for Bad Bunny’s historic half-time performance, consider substituting expensive appetizers for plantains. These can be bought frozen or made from scratch.
The true MVPs will be those coupons and sales.
“Going with the football analogy, you’ve got to pre-scout your opponent,” Swanson said. “Check out who’s offering a deal. Maybe two places to go — scout them out. See which the best deals are and split your money up a little bit.”
Check the freezer before going to the grocery store to see if there are any meats or other foods that can be used in a dish. Always make a grocery list to avoid shopping hungry. A solid budget helps you stay in bounds financially.
