When you think of classic rock music from the 1980s, which bands come to mind? Okay, now keep those in your head and then think which members of which bands you’d like to pluck out and put together in some groundbreaking supergroup. Got the lineup all set in your brain? Now, shout it out! Who would you select for such an honor?

Well, we believe we have the perfect combination below. The best lead vocalists, the best backing band. Just the cream of the crop. Indeed, let’s dive into it! This is the 1980s classic rock supergroup we’d want to see live if we could.

Co-Lead Vocalist: Prince

We already know that Prince can flourish in a supergroup, just watch this performance he did as a guitar player, paying tribute to the Beatles’ George Harrison (wait until the end). But while the Purple One can flourish as a lead guitar player, we also know he would have been excellent as a co-lead vocalist for our dreamed-up supergroup. Who will he share the duties with? Just check below to find out—hint: it’s someone he’s long been linked to. But with his compelling falsetto voice and alluring stage presence, Prince would thrive here.

Co-Lead Vocalist: Michael Jackson

The thing about Michael Jackson is that he wouldn’t even have to open his mouth to make this supergroup the greatest of all time. The man could dance like a deity. Adorned in sequined suits, he could wow audiences for hours with his moves. But then, of course, with his singing voice, songwriting ability, and general aura, he would bring everything up a level or 50. Of course, Jackson and Prince have a long history as rivals in the 80s. But we hope we can squash all that and turn hatchets into olive branches. Because Prince and Mike on the same stage would be one for the ages.

Backing Band: The Talking Heads

Not only did the Talking Heads create the greatest concert film of all time in 1984 with Stop Making Sense, but they would be the perfect funky classic rock band to back Prince and Mike. With their high energy, wackiness, and overall musical talent, the band could be nimble or hard-hitting. Thought-provoking or party time fun. There is nothing Talking Heads couldn’t do, and could you imagine Prince, Mike, and David Byrne singing together? Maybe they would all get giant suits, too!
