Understanding Montessori schools
Explore what Montessori schools are and how they measure student success.
August is starting soon and with it comes the end of summer break for kids around California.
Semesters, quarters, or sessions vary, and each district’s first day of instruction differs as well.
Public school districts will often decide the first day of instruction for most schools in their system almost a year before the new school year begins.
Private schools, such as charter and religious schools, have different start days from school districts in their areas.
So, when do classes start?
When does school start?
School start times vary within a county, as shown by the list of school start days that the Ventura County Office of Education compiled. Oak Park Unified School District is the earliest in the county to start on Aug. 8.
The rest of the school districts in the county have start days around mid-August. Other major school districts in California, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego, follow the same pattern of starting sometime in the middle of the month.
Parents and guardians of children attending public K-12 schools should check their local school district’s website to see when school starts for their student.
