The NCAA decision to allow for NIL has had far-reaching ripple effects that even the most seasoned veteran could not have seen coming.

Almost immediately, since players were collecting a check, fans felt much more willing to publicly attack mistakes while justifying their vocal criticisms with to the fact that many are making a handsome living and are therefore no longer immune from that form of feedback.

Coaches have also shifted how they handle performance within each of their respective programs as well, and today, during Trinidad Chambliss’ court hearing today seeking extra eligibility, quarterbacks coach Joe Judge shared a comment related to that which immediately made waves on social media.

…and not exactly the good kind of waves.

While talking about how they deal with significant others at Ole Miss who are expecting a child in-season, Judge noted a difficult conversation that they feel is now necessary.

“We would have to educate, and this was always a tough conversation to have, and it’s not going to be popular but it’s the truth. We would have to educate significant others that may have been pregnant during the season, or who were going to have a baby in the season, we would have to educate them on…if you have this baby in the middle of season, that father still has to play good football.”

“It is a day-by-day production business. He has to be ready to perform and go out there and play.”

“Why I say that is, you need to let him sleep,” Judge says their message to the expecting mothers was. “He needs to be in another room. Detached. We had to explain to the mother, like listen, he isn’t waking up for midnight feedings.”

“Now after the season, he’s full metal jacket, you can do whatever you want with him and he can change every diaper. But in-season he’s gotta have different priorities.”

It appears Judge goes on to share more, but that’s where the current video cuts out.

How that relates to Chambliss’ fight for more time under center at Ole Miss remains to be seen, and full context will surely shine an important light onto his full answer, but it was immediately clear that folks on social media felt pretty passionate about the context the comments were provided in.

Hear Judge in his own words in the clip.
