The Portland Thorns and Portland Fire’s new training center in Hillsboro officially has a name: the Kaiser Permanente Performance Center.
RAJ Sports, which owns the National Women’s Soccer League club and the WNBA franchise set to begin play in 2026, announced the designation Feb. 5 for the joint facility at Northeast Aloclek Drive and Northeast Evergreen Parkway.
The naming anchors a partnership that makes Kaiser Permanente the official medical provider and team physician for both teams. Doctors from Kaiser Permanente will provide onsite care, overseeing sports medicine, injury prevention, rehabilitation and mental health services.
“Our goal is to have the best care in women’s sports,” Lisa Bhathal Merage, governor of the Thorns and Fire and managing partner of RAJ Sports, said in a release. “Kaiser Permanente gives us the expertise to elevate performance, prevent injuries and support long careers.”
RAJ Sports said it will work with Kaiser Permanente on community programs that connect with those in need, advance health equity, support youth development and empower girls and women throughout the region.
Announced in 2025 and slated to open this year, the first-of-its-kind, dual-purpose professional soccer and basketball complex is designed specifically for women athletes, with dedicated spaces for training, sports medicine, recovery and rehabilitation.
The 90,000-square-foot main building will include a 17,000-square-foot practice gym with two full-size basketball courts, two outdoor soccer pitches, an outdoor training zone and a 5,000-square-foot strength and conditioning area with an outdoor turf zone and yoga room.
The center will feature advanced performance labs and dedicated medical suites, as well as mental health and wellness spaces and recovery areas. Each team will have separate dressing rooms, meeting rooms, social media content spaces and rooms for players’ families. Nutrition support will come through a full-service dining room staffed by a chef and nutritionist.
Private parking and secure player entry are included, while community spaces will host clinics, classes, youth programs and public health initiatives.
RAJ Sports, the sports investment platform for the Bhathal Family, is the only ownership group in the country to operate both an NWSL club and a WNBA franchise.
