Mary Jane Watson is receiving yet another brand-new redesign as Venom. It won’t be for quite a while, with the look debuting in Venom #259 in June, but this bold Venom redesign is a neat take on the character with a much-needed emphasis on the host who’s bonded with the symbiote.
Per Marvel, as well as comic book solicitations and previews, MJ’s new Venom design isn’t held back by the host’s identity being a secret. From Venom #259 on, MJ’s Venom can fully be herself, and that will come with an appearance that makes MJ a crucial element in it.
MJ’s Venom Is Getting a New Look
MJ’s new Venom costume, designed by R.B. Silva, is refreshing as it is no longer Venom’s hulking black mass with a yellow insignia wrapped around the torso. Incorporating a lot more of MJ into it, this design lets MJ’s red hair down, the symbiote conforms to her slim figure, and yellow is a more dominant color, as seen in the costume’s wedge heels, large eyes, and broad insignia pattern.
It will be quite compelling to see this MJ/Venom emerge later on in the titular Venom run, especially once Peter is aware that she’s the new Venom.
MJ’s Fate as Venom is Sealed
MJ’s ongoing Venom series runs alongside Spider-Man’s Amazing Spider-Man series, and soon the two runs will converge with the Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral event. This will ultimately lead to Peter Parker and MJ having a “heart-to-heart” in Venom #258, while Spider-Man and Venom will apparently have some scores to settle.
Afterward, MJ is becoming this all-new Venom, which implies that she and the symbiote aren’t going to be separating any time soon. But whether Peter and MJ are going to rekindle their romance or not, either in Venom #258 or by The Amazing Spider-Man #1000, is anyone’s guess.
