MobLand star Emmett J. Scanlan just teased what fans can expect from the crime drama when it returns later this year.

MobLand debuted in the spring of 2025 on Paramount+ with the second-biggest premiere ever for the streaming platform. Pierce Brosnan stars as the head of a family that hires a fixer (played by Tom Hardy) to protect them against other crime families. Paramount renewed the series for a second season, with filming currently underway.

While promoting his new Netflix show How to Get to Heaven From Belfast, Scanlan claimed that MobLand season 2 is like the 10-episode first season but “on steroids!” He told Hello! that the storylines are “insane” and “bananas.” The actor “loved” reading through the scripts, which are “fantastic,” and “getting lost in that world.” Without providing any spoilers, Scanlan went so far as to claim MobLand season 2 is “even better” than season 1.

“If you liked season 1, penned incredibly by Jez Butterworth, then season 2 is season one on steroids! It is insane, it’s bananas. I loved season 1, I loved reading it and getting lost in that world. I think season 2 is even better. The scripts are fantastic.”

Scanlan appeared in a recurring role as Paul O’Donnell, Conrad Harrigan’s head of security, in the first season of MobLand and will be returning to the series for the next installment. He starred opposite such actors as Brosnan, who’s best known for playing James Bond and starring in films like Mrs. Doubtfire, The Thomas Crown Affair ,and Mamma Mia!

Brosnan is an “absolute delight” to work with, according to Scanlan, who added that the Bond actor has been a hero of his for years. “They say never meet your heroes, but…this guy is so warm, so welcoming and so nurturing,” he explained.

As a result, being on the set of MobLand ended up being like an education of sorts for Scanlan, whose credits include Hollyoaks, Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands, Peaky Blinders, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Argylle.

“I get to go toe-to-toe with Pierce Brosnan for a number of scenes and he is an absolute delight. They say never meet your heroes, but, I mean, that’s [expletive] because this guy is so warm, so welcoming and so nurturing and such an artist. To work with heroes and to get to be on set with people who are better than me, inevitably, it makes every day a school day. I just get to learn from them. It’s amazing!”

He also feels that way about several of the other famous cast members on MobLand, like Hardy and Helen Mirren. “It’s impossible to go on set and not leave becoming a better person and—fingers crossed—a better actor,” Scanlan added.

These celebrities are at the “top of their game,” so Scanlan uses his time on set as a major learning opportunity, one that not every actor gets to have.

“It’s a remarkable feeding ground to learn every single time, and you’re surrounded by people you grew up watching. There’s Helen and Pierce and [Tom] Hardy—I mean, it’s impossible to go on set and not leave becoming a better person and, fingers crossed, a better actor. You watch these guys at the top of their game doing their thing, and I’m just fanning out with them.”

The MobLand season 1 finale, which was released in June 2025, featured the death of Richie Stevenson, Conrad and Maeve Harrigan heading to jail, Kevin Harrigan finding himself more powerful than ever, and Harry Da Souza being stabbed. In MobLand season 2, the characters will be forced to deal with the aftermath caused by all of these shocking events.

Aside from Hardy, Brosnan, Mirren and Scanlan, MobLand also stars Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Jasmine Jobson, Mandeep Dhillon, Daniel Betts, Geoff Bell, Janet McTeer, Jordi Mollà, and Toby Jones.

Ronan Bennett created MobLand, which has a 76% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Snatch director Guy Ritchie serves as an executive producer alongside Bennett, Hardy, David C. Glasser, Kris Thykier, Ivan Atkinson, Jez Butterworth, Dean Baker, Anthony Byrne, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari.

A premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but MobLand is expected to return sometime in 2026.
