MILWAUKIE, Ore. (KATU) — A massive and monstrous creation gained a lot of attention in a Milwaukie, Oregon neighborhood after someone complained about “Messie the Milwauk-Ness Monster” online.

Originally named ‘Nessie’ after the Loch Ness Monster, the owners changed their teal green creation’s name to ‘Ned’ before eventually settling on ‘Messie’ when they moved to Milwaukie back in September.

It was posted anonymously to a neighborhood Facebook group by what appears to be a concerned neighbor, who was less than impressed with the craft.

The user made an anonymous, complaint about the statue, saying in part “please put this in a more private place. It is so rude for those of us, as well as guests, have to see this every day.”

As the post spread, it became clear the 3-part project has more friends than enemies.

Locals began flocking to see Messie, flooding the Milwaukie Chit Chat group page with pictures.

“In this day and age, we’re all just feeling upset about stuff, and it was just an over-response,” Beth Moser, who lives nearby, said of the online post.

On Friday, the store “Made in Milwaukie” began selling Messie-themed merchandise.

You can spot Messie yourself along Southeast 20th Avenue in Milwaukie’s Island Station neighborhood.

A warning for anyone looking to make the trek to see Messie: while it’s clearly adored by people, you may want to leave your dog at home.
