Ahmed Nagi Mohamed Aldaibani, 27, now faces a handful of charges.

STATESVILLE, N.C. — A  man was arrested the night of Valentine’s Day after police say he broke into a Statesville home and assaulted a woman while she slept.

Officers with the Statesville Police Department responded around 10:15 p.m. Saturday to the home along North Oakland Avenue after receiving a report of a breaking and entering in progress.

The homeowner told officers that an unknown male suspect had unlawfully entered her home and physically assaulted her while she was asleep. She was able to escape during the altercation and seek help from a nearby neighbor, who called law enforcement. The suspect had ran off before officers arrived.

Based on a description provided by the victim, officers located a man matching that description near Alexander Street. The suspect kept running when officers attempted to make contact, but was apprehended a short distance away without further incident.

Iredell County EMS responded to the scene and provided medical evaluation and treatment to the victim.

The suspect was identified as Ahmed Nagi Mohamed Aldaibani, 27, of Jefferson. He was charged with breaking and entering to terrorize or injure, assault by strangulation, sexual battery, assault on a female, false imprisonment, and resisting a public officer.

Aldaibani was taken before the Iredell County Magistrate and issued a $150,000 secured bond.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
