A bridge in the Croatian town of Trogir has been recognised among the world’s leading architectural achievements after being named a finalist in the prestigious 2026 Building of the Year Awards.

The Bridge over Foša, designed by Croatian architectural studio Prostorne taktike, has reached the final stage of the ArchDaily Building of the Year Awards 2026.

The project stands among the top five global finalists in the Public & Landscape Architecture category.

This year’s competition attracted more than 70,000 public nominations from 100 countries worldwide. From an initial pool of over 3,000 projects, the selection was narrowed down to just 75 finalists across 15 categories, placing the bridge firmly on the global architectural map.

The Public & Landscape Architecture category highlights projects that successfully integrate design, functionality and public space, showcasing innovation in shaping shared environments.

Being shortlisted among the top five globally represents a significant achievement not only for the project’s authors but also for Croatian contemporary architecture.

Built at the Vranjic shipyard using classic shipbuilding methods, the 30-metre-long and 10-metre-wide bridge opened in 2024. Standing four metres above the water, it enables smaller vessels to pass freely beneath.

Weighing 65 tonnes, the structure was transported into position by a specialised tugboat and fully completed within eight months.

Beyond its striking design, the bridge functions as a welcoming public space. It features 29 permanent seating spots along with several netted lounging areas, creating a scenic meeting point for both residents and visitors. The total investment for the project amounted to €1 million.

The Building of the Year Awards, organised by ArchDaily, are regarded as the largest community-driven architectural awards in the world.

For 17 years, the global platform has placed the power of decision-making into the hands of architects, designers and architecture enthusiasts.
