After twelve years in Salem, Billy Flynn has officially said goodbye to the role of Chad DiMera. The 40-year-old soap star’s final “Days of Our Lives” episode aired on Tuesday.

Speaking to TV Insider about his exit, Flynn expressed deep gratitude for the role and the personal milestones he achieved during his tenure.

“I love Days, and I loved the character of Chad so much,” he told the outlet in a piece published on Tuesday.

“Having a job changed my life, and everything in my life changed so much. I have two children, I got sober on the show, and it gave me a life beyond my wildest dreams, so it’s hard to have anything other than gratitude for all of it.”

Flynn originally announced his exit in March 2025. Because the soap films up to ten months in advance, the actor had ample time to process the transition, eventually admitting he felt ready to move on.

“I’m just ready for that chapter to be closed,” he said, adding, “It feels like I’m lingering too long, and it’s tough to start a new chapter when you’re still in the other one,” he said.

In his final moments on screen, Chad DiMera was seen leaving Salem alongside his children, Thomas and Charlotte. Flynn compared the emotional weight of Chad’s farewell arc to his own experience on set.

“The stuff that’s airing now is what I remember fondly because they are genuine goodbyes,” he said, adding that the experience “was like getting to witness your own funeral in a weird way; everybody gives you love and admiration.”

As Conner Floyd prepares to step into the role of Chad DiMera on “Days,” Flynn is heading back to familiar territory. Having previously played Phillip “Chance” Chancellor IV on “The Young and the Restless,” he returned to the CBS soap’s set this past June. Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see him back in action, however, as his first episodes are slated to air in April 2026.

“Days of Our Lives” streams new episodes weekdays exclusively on Peacock. Meanwhile, “The Young and the Restless” airs weekdays on CBS (check local listings) and is available to stream on Paramount+.
