SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — A revolutionary new mental health facility is one step closer to becoming a reality in Siouxland. Heartland Counseling Services is putting up a new crisis center.
When it’s done, Waypoint will be the first detox center of its kind in Siouxland.
The South Sioux City facility will provide a 24/7 dedicated space for individuals experiencing mental health or substance abuse episodes.
Heartland Counseling’s executive director, Jennifer Jackson, said the facility will be helpful for local residents.

“We do have a great need in our community for detox services,” said Jackson. “And so I think that people can recognize that and see now they’re not going to have to travel, you know, to Omaha or to Sioux Falls.”
Heartland Counseling Services broke ground today on its new crisis stabilization and detox center in South Sioux City.
“So this is a diversion for the hospital, and this is also a diversion for jail,” said Jackson. “So the state of Nebraska actually did a cost report, and they anticipate we’re going to save the state 1,400,000 in year one and 1,700,000 in year two.”
Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027.
