A pair of Detroit Red Wings’ first-round picks helped the Grand Rapids defeat the Cleveland Monsters 3-2 Wednesday at Van Andel Arena.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard (15th overall in 2024) scored what stood as the game-winning goal in the second period. Sebastian Cossa (15th overall in 2021) made 22 saves in picking up his AHL-leading 22nd win (22-4-2).
The Griffins have won four in a row and six of their past seven, improving their league-best record to 38-7-2-1 (79 points).
Dominik Shine scored his 21st goal to open the scoring at 1:02 of the first period and assisted on Sheldon Dries’ goal (his 18th) at 11:48 of the first that put Grand Rapids ahead for good at 2-1.
Brandsegg-Nygard made it 3-1 at 16:52 of the second period with his ninth goal.
Cleveland fell to 25-16-6-1 (57 points).
The Griffins host the Chicago Wolves on Friday (7 p.m.).
