It’s quite common, if not expected, that superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe get new suits with each appearance. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has been no different. Peter Parker has already cycled through eight Spider-Man suits in the MCU, with the last one coming in Spider-Man: No Way Home’s ending after the lonely, poor young adult created a new homemade version.

That classic red and blue suit was adored by audiences, even though it was only seen for a few seconds, but its already been replaced for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Official looks at Holland in the film have revealed his ninth Spider-Man costume, one that appears to reference the looks of his Spider brothers, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.

At first, the introduction of Brand New Day’s new Spider-Man suit appeared to be an example of Marvel giving the superhero another makeover (one driven to help sell toys and other merchandise). But new information on the solo film reveals the true explanation for Peter’s new threads in Phase 6.

Peter Parker Has A Lot Of Time To Perfect His Homemade Spider-Man Suit For Brand New Day

In a surprising update for the movie, the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day synopsis has been revealed. It teases the general plot audiences can expect to see when Spider-Man swings back into theaters on July 31, but it also confirms a time jump. The synopsis mentions “Four years have gone by since we last caught up with our friendly neighborhood hero.”

The movie taking place four years after No Way Home is notable for several reasons, including where it places Brand New Day in the MCU timeline. One of the less obvious connections is to Spider-Man’s new costume, though.

We now know that Peter Parker has had four years’ worth of adventures as Spider-Man since we last saw him swinging through the snowy New York skyline. That’s a lot of time to fight crime. And as we’ve seen before with his previous costumes (as well as other heroes), that much action often leads to suits becoming damaged.

It would be illogical, then, for Peter to still have the final No Way Home suit during this new movie. Sure, he could repair certain parts of that suit as cuts, rips, and more wear and tear occur, allowing him to retain the same general look of the suit over time. But even then, all that damage adds up over four years, making it more than reasonable to think Peter would need a fresh superhero suit by the time Brand New Day happens.

Furthermore, the evolved look of the suit could be a reflection of Peter’s mentality. The synopsis teases that he’s spent the majority of his time during these four years focused on being Spider-Man, not Peter. Updating his costume to better reflect his confidence as a hero or even his general mindset makes sense.

While having a new suit in Spider-Man: Brand New Day was likely a requirement, there appears to be a real reason behind the change in-universe. Hopefully, that all fully comes across during the final product, too.
