OKLAHOMA CITY, (KOKH) — Since we’re a month out from the beginning of the 2025-26 University of Oklahoma football season, now is as good a time as ever to preview the 12-game onslaught of Sooner football!

Following an offseason stocked full of changes, our Sooners will kick off their season with two home games, the first of which will be against the Illinois State Redbirds on Aug. 30 at 5 p.m. During Brent Venable’s time as head coach of this team, he has held an undefeated record when coaching home openers.

The second home game to start the season will see the Sooners face off against the Michigan Wolverines on Sept. 6, who are coming off an 8-5 season under their new head coach, Sherrone Moore. Despite the program’s struggles last season, Big Ten analysts believe that the Wolverines will be back in the college football playoffs this season.

Following their two-game home opener, the Sooners will hit the road to take on the University of Temple Owls on Sept. 13 at 11 a.m., before returning home to host the Auburn Tigers on Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. September will be the only time this season when we won’t face any teams that were present in the 2025 college football playoffs.

The Sooners will begin October by hosting the Kent State Golden Flashes on Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. before taking on their biggest match-up of the season!

On Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m., our Sooners will battle it out against the No. 4-ranked Texas Longhorns at Cotton Bowl Stadium in the 121st game of the “Red River Showdown!” In 121 seasons of the rivalry, Texas holds the upper hand overall, with a 64-51-5 record. Even though history has shown favor to the Longhorns throughout the many years of this match-up, our Sooners will try their best to defy the odds and avenge their blowout 34-3 loss from last year.

Following the Red River Showdown, Oklahoma will travel to South Carolina to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks on Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. before hosting the Ole Miss Rebels on Oct. 25 at 11 a.m.

In Week 9, the Sooners will be on the road again to play the No. 9-ranked Tennessee Volunteers on Nov. 1 at 2:30-3:30 pm or 5-7 p.m. Tennessee will be entering this season off a tough first-round elimination against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Although the Volunteers many players over the offseason, they have added 25 players from the 2025 recruiting class and will look towards having a stronger season this year.

After their Week 10 bye, our Sooners will continue their road game stretch, facing off against the No. 17-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Nov. 15 at 2:30-3:30 p.m. or 5-7 p.m. While Crimson Tide is coming off a rocky season following the departure of their long-time head coach, Nick Saban, they’ll also look ahead towards bouncing back as championship contenders this season. Oklahoma will set their sights on beating the Crimson Tide again after shocking the world last season, blowing out Alabama 24-3.

The Sooners will close out the 2025-26 season with two home games. Their first home match-up will see them host the Missouri Tigers on Nov. 22 at 11 a.m., before playing their final game of the regular season versus the LSU Tigers on Nov. 29 at 2:30-3:30 or 5-7 p.m.

A recent report from SportsBookWire gave the Sooners +5000 odds to win the 2026 CFB National Championship.
