Appleton’s College Avenue showcases ice sculptures with Wisconsin flair

  • February 23, 2026

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – An ice sculpture part of a downtown Appleton event was vandalized overnight.

The Center for Suicide Awareness said their sculpture, which featured two hands coming together in the shape of a heart, was intentionally smashed to the ground.

The organization said in a Facebook post that the suspected vandal was caught on camera. He is seen picking up the platform and throwing it to the ground, which destroyed the only sculpture damaged overnight. He is also seen taking a photo with another sculpture after damaging the other one.

The Center for Suicide Awareness’s ice carving was part of the Avenue of Ice Carvings event, which featured 26 handcrafted ice sculptures, with this year’s theme being “What We Love About Wisconsin”.

“At the Center for Suicide Awareness, one of our core missions is showing that kindness can save a life. This sculpture symbolized that love can reach someone who is struggling — sometimes in ways we may never fully see,” the organization wrote on Facebook.

Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to contact Appleton Police.

The other ice sculptures will be up as long as the weather allows.
