A winter storm that, days ago, looked like it would drop a few inches of snow on the New York City area has escalated into a full-on nor’easter, burying parts of the tri-state in more than a foot and a half of snow and counting by Monday morning.
Wicked winds have compounded problems, creating dangerous whiteout conditions amid snowfall rates near 4 inches an hour. States of emergency are in effect, as are travel bans across the tri-state. The nor’easter is grinding mass transit and air travel to a halt.
