Tiny otters are very adorable creatures. From their cute looks to the adorable squeaking sounds that they make, these little critters are pretty much total cuteness overload on legs!
They also have plenty of personality, too! In fact, they can even be pretty spicy at times. Just take the little otter in this video, for instance. A man and his friend spot this little critter at the opening of an ice fishing hole, and they ask him, “Why are you here?”
Let’s just say that this little otter responded in kind, giving plenty of attitude and creating plenty of hilarity in the process.
What exactly was this little otter doing hanging out by the opening of this ice fishing hole? Well, that’s exactly what these guys wanted to know, so they asked. And this tiny otter’s response? It was something along the lines of, “mraaaaaahaaa!”
We don’t speak otter, but we think this little critter might have said something along the lines of, “I’m here for the fish, just like you, dummy!” Unsurprisingly, social media was all over this one, with people having all kinds of ideas as to what this little otter was trying to say to these guys.

Instagram user mitchdepuydt thought that this otter might be trying to say, “You guys suck at fishing, I’m outta here.” While Instagram user kayla_beau had a different take on what the otter wanted in this video when she wrote, “What do you mean? ‘Why are you here?’ He was at the drive-through window waiting for his food!”
And Instagram user _jack_b_3 joked, “He had answered, just in his native tongue. He could have pleaded the fish amendment, LOL.”
How Otters Swim in Icy Water
If this video has you wondering how that otter dove headfirst into that ice fishing hole without giving it a second thought, you are not alone.
Otters are able to swim in icy waters because of their special fur coats with guard hairs that keep out the elements, as well as an underfur that traps the warm air in their bodies. Thanks to these protections from the cold, otters are able to easily swim and dive through icy waters.
They are also very playful creatures by nature, and sometimes people will see them sliding down hills on their stomachs or playing in the snow. And sometimes they will even talk back to fishermen who ask them why they came to the fishing hole.
