New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton has battled injuries over his past few season, but he doesn’t want that to get in the way now.
Stanton is one of the most powerful sluggers in baseball and plays a valuable role for the Yankees in their starting lineup alongside Aaron Judge. But unfortunately, however, Stanton is currently dealing with “tennis elbow” that is so severe that simple tasks have become difficult for him. Here is what he told Randy Miller (via NJ.com):
“I can’t open a bottle,” Stanton said. “I can’t open a bag of chips … a bag of anything. That’s the way it is.”
For someone whose job it is to swing a bat, you would think that opening a bottle or a bag of chips would come naturally.

He could potentially have surgery to clean out the tendons and potentially repair both of his elbows. But that isn’t one of his concerns right now. Stanton added:
“That’s not going to be fixed in surgery, and I don’t care what any doctor says because they don’t know what’s going on,” Stanton said.
While he has not yet played during spring training for the Yankees, he is expected to make his debut at designated hitter on March 3.
He will have two weeks to prepare for the season before the opener against the San Francisco Giants on March 25.
