A water main break in Passaic flooded the street causing a messy situation on Friday morning.

The 12- inch water main broke around 3 a.m. on Passaic Street at Wall Street.

The Passaic Valley Water Commission was on the scene to assess the situation.

Crews were working to shut off the water so they could repair the water main.

NewsCopter 7 was over the scene around 6:30 a.m. and water was still seeping from the street.

Mayor Hector Carlos Lora took to Facebook Live to provide an update to residents.

He warned that once water was shut off, water pressure would be low. He urged people to get ready early for their day before that happened.

Mayor Lora also said that crews were salting the road, which was already experiencing icy conditions.

Police will also monitor students walking to school Friday morning.

Affected streets included Passaic, Wall, 6th, and 8th streets.

Recent temperature swings may have played a factor in the break, but the official cause is under investigation.
