REDDING, California — Jason Soule, a new author who relocated to Redding from Texas several years ago, has released his debut book, “Secrets of the Sofa.” Soule, who followed his three daughters to the Northstate, drew on his decades of experience in education and childhood memories to craft the story over the past several years.

While not from Redding, Soule has taken to the area like someone born and raised along the Sacramento. He called himself “20 years too late to the mountain.” The former educator is quick to laugh, and his easy humor is clear to see in his writing.

The novel follows the adventure of three boys who discover a treasure trove in their new couch. Soule says it dives into his own experiences growing up with his two best friends in the One Star State.

“It’s just a fun adventure, as far as where the money came from. When people start finding out about the money, ” Soule said. “Whose gonna come after it? And it just unlocks a whole adventure from there.”

The book, intended for middle school-aged children, has already sold 200 copies within a month of its release. Something Suole said has inspired him to write even more. He revealed he is 80% done with the sequel and has plans for many more books in the future.
