SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – O.C. Welch Golf Properties has agreed with the City of Savannah to extend its management contract for Bacon Park Golf Course, coinciding with the course’s 100th anniversary.
O.C. Welch Golf Properties has managed Bacon Park Golf Course since 2014 and has invested more than $8 million in the course and its facilities. The original contract was for 12 years. The renewal includes a pledge of additional support from the City of Savannah.
Restoration and recognition
Renowned golf architect Richard Mandell led the restoration that earned the 2016 Renovation of the Year award in the public course category from Golf Inc. Magazine.
Improvements over the past 12 years have included work on the golf course, the pro shop, the lighted driving range and elsewhere on Shorty Cooper Drive.
What’s ahead
“Bacon Park is what you think about when you talk about golf in Savannah, and we are excited about continuing to make the golf course, the pro shop, the practice facilities and everything else first class for the thousands of people who play golf at Bacon Park,” said O.C. Welch Golf Properties president O.C. Welch. “What has already been done at Bacon Park is incredible, and we have a lot more planned. Start celebrating the 100th anniversary of Bacon Park, an unbelievable milestone for a place that has been a home away from home for so many people over the years.”
