A brush fire sparked in northeast Cape Coral on Saturday, according to the Cape Coral Fire Department and the Florida Forest Service.CCFD said in a Facebook post that smoke was first reported in the area of Kismet Parkway and Del Prado Boulevard. CCFD added that firefighters were on the scene along with the Florida Forest Service, North Strike Team and Cape Coral police.The Florida Forest Service said on its website that the fire is 36 acres large and 95% contained. CCFD said that the cause of the fire was determined to be an illegal campfire.The Cape Coral Police Department shut down the roadway between Del Prado Boulevard and Coral Lakes in both directions, which lasted for several hours.CCPD also said that out of an abundance of caution nearby businesses were being evacuated, including the AdventHealth Cape Coral emergency room.Southwest Florida has been experiencing dry conditions and an ongoing drought. A 30,000-acre brush fire continues to burn in Collier County, with several smaller fires also sparking throughout the region.
