So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

THE VOIDZ – MĘĞŻ ØF RÅM

Surprise! It’s a new Voidz EP and for all you Strokes fans, this one was recorded in the same East Village basement as Is This It.

KEATON HENSON – “LAZY MUSICIAN” FT. RATBOYS’ JULIA STEINER

Keaton Henson is back with his first new music since his 2024 instrumental album Somnambulant Cycles. He co-wrote “Lazy Magician” with Ratboys’ Julia Steiner, and he says, “Julia’s voice is so evocative of that sound to me, it reminds me of when I first heard Rilo Kiley. She has a lot of the suburban magic-realism of the American bands I loved back then. I wrote the guitar parts and first lines to the drum machine and we both sort of just free-wrote the rest. Allowing our subconscious to form the narrative. I like that it’s almost like these two lonely souls singing next to each other, but sometimes over each other, like we’re so lost in our own self-reflection we’re unaware we’re in a duet.”

THE STARTING LINE – “CIRCULATE”

The Starting Line have shared a two-and-a-half minute banger called “Circulate,” the second taste of their first album in 18 years and another song that feels like a culmination of everything they’ve done plus a step forward all at once.

KEHLANI – “(UN)FOLDED”

Kehlani has shared a stripped-back version of her June single “Folded.”

HONK – “LAST ORDER”

Manchester group HONK are rooted in garage and early rock n’ roll, and get good and grimy on the latest single from their upcoming Closing Down Sale EP.

IRON & WINE AND BAND OF HORSES’ BEN BRIDWELL – “LUTHER” (KENDRICK LAMAR & SZA COVER)

Ten years after their cover album Sing Into My Mouth and ahead of their coheadlining tour, Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam and Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell have announced a new EP of covers, Making Good Time, due out September 12 via Black Cricket Recording Co. / Brown Records. The first single is a rendition of Kendrick Lamar & SZA’s “Luther.” “I chose to focus on ‘Luther’ after kinda hitting a wall wondering which songs would be best to contribute,” Bridwell says. “After much hand-wringing, it hit me, ‘Why not just do my favorite song?’ I’d been playing the then newly released GNX album on repeat and that song in particular with my girls to the point of exhaustion. About a week later, Kendrick strangled the game at the Super Bowl and ‘Luther’ would soon become a number 1 hit for so many weeks. Seems a little late now to share this as it’s been many months since recording it, but I knew that damn song was headed for big things. Praying we did some justice.”

SELECTOR DUB NARCOTIC (CALVIN JOHNSON) – “WHEN BOYS CRY”

Calvin Johnson’s dance music alter ego releases the When Boys Cry EP on September 12 and here’s the fizzy, groovy title track.

WHITMER THOMAS – “BRONCO BUSTER”

OLIVIA BARTON – “MATTER TO YOU”

Olivia Barton announced a new album, For Myself and For You, due out on October 10. She co-wrote the lead single, “Matter To You,” with Madi Diaz, and says, “I wrote the chorus of ‘Matter to You’ in the back of a van on my first tour ever in 2021, before I got sober. It was the moment I looked at my destructive, attention-seeking behavior and found the pain underneath. Two years later I took the chorus to Madi Diaz. Her compassion allowed me to tell the truth in a way I couldn’t on my own. ‘Matter to You’ lifted me to a new level of maturity, compassion, and commitment to my partner and to myself.”

WILD PINK – “DISINTEGRATE (EDIT)” FT. FENNE LILY

Wild Pink announced a deluxe edition of their 2024 album Dulling the Horns, due out on October 3 via Fire Talk Records. The first single is a new version of “Disintegrate” featuring Fenne Lily. “I’m a huge fan of Fenne’s music, so I was honored she agreed to do it,” John Ross says. “I’ve listened to it a bunch of times and it sounds like a new song to me.” Fenne adds, “When John asked me to contribute to this release I screamed ‘hell yes’ and eagerly awaited a snow day — Dulling the Horns is my most listened to album of the last couple of years so it was an honour and a privilege to hole up in a Vermont attic and cobble together this cover of ‘Disintegrate.’ The percussion is the ASMR hands of Mr Theo Munger, everything else is one guitar tracked 8ish times, thank you for trusting me with your song, Wild Pink, wizard that you are.”

New Mexican Summer singees Katzin has shared his first single for the label via upcoming comp Sitting on the Moon which is out August 15 and also features new tracks from Connan Mockasin, Dungen, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Robert Lester Folsom, and more. “Horseshoes” moves slow like the hottest day of summer.
