We’re off to a sunny, cold start to this work week. High temperatures will only reach the mid to upper 20 this afternoon. Overnight lows will sink into the teens.
Set your alarm for tomorrow morning’s total lunar eclipse! A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth is positioned between the sun and the full moon, with Earth casting its shadow over the moon. In this case, the eclipse will turn the moon blood red during the predawn hours tomorrow.
In fact, the partial eclipse will begin at 4:50 a.m. The eclipse will begin totality around 6:04 a.m., with peak totality happening at 6:33 a.m. Here in Boston, we’ll be able to see the beginning of totality just before the moon sets, which will happen at 6:17 a.m. But get this! The moonset will coincide with sunrise happening around 6:16 a.m., so we’ll have a short window of time to see totality as the moon turns red.

We’ll also have just a few clouds moving in around this celestial event. Still, though, the cloud cover shouldn’t completely block your viewing of the eclipse. Enjoy!

As we continue moving through Tuesday, though, let’s prepare for more wintry weather. A system will bring some snow to parts of central and eastern Massachusetts by mid-morning Tuesday. Later in the afternoon, things could get a bit messy as the snow transitions to sleet and rain as our temperatures warm above freezing, especially around the afternoon drive. Some rain and a few snowflakes could linger into early Wednesday morning.
While this is not a major event for our area, some areas communities around 1 inch of snow in central Massachusetts and parts of southern New Hampshire on Tuesday. Boston and Greater Boston will likely see less than an inch of snow – again, most of this happens just before the rain moves in and washes the snow away.

High temperatures will be in the low 40s Tuesday.

Temperatures will warm into the mid 40s Wednesday and Thursday.

Rain is expected Friday, but farther north into New Hampshire, some snowflakes could mix with the rain.
Even warmer weather is expected this weekend into early next week. High will warm into the 50s and close to 60 in spots.
