The automaker Volvo Cars is launching its largest-ever over-the-air software update, reaching approximately 2.5 million vehicles in 85 countries.
The new user experience, Volvo Car UX, offers faster access to apps such as maps and media, as well as fewer taps for common functions. The update is free for models with Google built-in from model year 2020 onward and also enables post-purchase acquisition of Pilot Assist. No financial details have been disclosed regarding the rollout.
“This update is one of the largest over-the-air updates in automotive history. It leverages years of investment in Volvo Cars’ technology stack to improve life with their cars for millions of people,” says Anders Bell, Head of Engineering and Technology at Volvo Cars.
“Our new user experience delivers significant updates and improvements in the areas most used by drivers, directly addressing our customers’ needs and wishes.”
